The Progressive Dialogue on STEM education in New York State surfaced perceptions that the education system as people understand it is not always responsive to local needs; framed a roadmap for STEM policy, program, platform and partnership transformation to improve students' academic and career success; and served as a catalyst in mobilizing communities to action. The final ethnographic report and inventory of ideas and references is now available.

On June 10, 2010, over 160 stakeholders gathered to form the Empire State STEM Learning Network and begin work on state-wide priorities recommended by the Progressive Dialogue. The morning program included introductory remarks by Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, President, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; an overview of Progressive Dialogue findings by Dr. Eddie Ade Knowles, Vice President for Student Life, RPI; a panel discussion on emerging regional network hubs; and investor perspectives led by Ms. Robin Willner, Vice President for Global Community Initiatives at IBM.
